19' Alpha Dory

Alpha Dory designed by Garden and built by Williams of teak and marine ply.

A 19’ beach launched dory that can be sailed, rowed or driven by outboard. Bottom planked with 1 ½” teak. With a centerboard and a wide beam this is a heavy, very stable dory for Bay conditions.

Sailing rig is new. Hollow spar is lightweight Sitka spruce “bird’s mouth” construction. All hardware and fittings were hand built and galvanized. Sails were built by Hogin 2012.

The dory was pulled last week for maintenance. All seams were reefed out and new cotton driven in. New paint throughout and a dry boat.

This has been a very fun boat for my family because of its versatility and ease of just stepping aboard for an afternoon’s sail.The dory is located in Alameda.

Bird Boat #22

Hummingbird is for sale!
After extensive rebuilding Hummingbird is a tough fast bay area classic. Built in 1932 she is the only George Knease bird boats left and one of 6 regularly sailing the bay. She is fast powerful and elegant, yet easily single handed.
As of June 2012 when she was last hauled she has new topside and bottom paint, all of her seams were reefed, re-cottoned and payed with seam compound. All of her planking is now bronze fastened. She had 5 planks replaced and while she bare wood all planking was checked repaired where necessary. (I have sample fasteners for inspection). Her decks have been replaced including her aft deck which is now laid teak. She has a new stem, transom and all ribs have been replaced.
Her mast, boom standing rigging and running rigging are in great shape, they include tiller extension and self tailing main winch. Her Pineapple sails have less than 2 seasons on them. She has a new battery and auto bilge pump however she does not take on any water.
I have some of her original parts and she retains some original woodwork. She is a great model of one of the oldest one design classes on the west coast.

1936 Alden Cutter

Lovely John G. Alden designed one of a kind Cutter.
Built in 1936 in the Palmer Johnson Shipyard. The hull and deck house are built of mahogany the decks are teak. 36 feet on deck, she has a full compliment of sails and several extras as well. I can stand up in the cabin and am slightly over six feet tall. The deck house is divided into an aft pilot's berth, which sleeps two, the main salon which sleeps five, the galley, a forward storage area, and the head. There are separate entrances to the pilot's berth and the main salon, so that the crew can go up on deck with out disturbing the rest of the pilots.

She has had a fairly recent haul out and survey which found her to be sound. We were fitting her out for an electric engine because the original atomic four was no longer functional and we did not want to stick with a gasoline engine on a wooden boat. So included in the sale would be eight 80 AH AGM batteries, and one 100 AH AGM as well as a couple of deep cycle marine batteries, all in solid working condition.
She is a beautiful boat who needs a bit of love to make her truly shine. The bulwark has some dry rot and needs to be repaired/replaced, but the rot does not extend to the shear plank and is thus more cosmetic than structural. She needs some painting and varnishing, but the hull is sound and she is in remarkable condition for her age. Sale includes the original Kelvin and White compass which mounts in the binnacle and is gently illuminated by an indirect red light and is a piece of art in itself. She is berthed in Moss Landing.

1996 built by the fine boatbuilder, Steve Najjar.

This boat "Lealand" is in Bristol condition, and was recently donated to the Spaulding Wooden Boat Center. It is a collector's item, the real value is $24,000 we are letting it go for $10,000.

1948 Stephens 48' Raised Deck Cruiser

1948 Stephens 48' launched in August of 1947 as the Deborah K and later renamed Scheherazade.  Repowered with Detroit 653's.  Flying bridge added by original owner in the early 1950's.  Unique custom interior as ordered from Stephens.
Some reconfiguration over the years but retains much of her originality.
I have been living aboard for the past 7 years during an ongoing restoration.  Numerous frames sistered, reframing of saloon windows, etc, etc, etc.  Over 100K invested but there is still about 25K in work to do (less, if your skill level is high).
Large saloon, forward V berth stateroom with head and shower, galley aft of saloon (with unique "non settee" woodwork), aft stateroom with head, aft cockpit.

Ladybug

LADYBUG was developed from Bill Garden’s JUNEBUG design.  Awarded “Best Small Sailboat” at the Center for Wooden Boats Seattle Boat Show.  Expertly built in 1998 and has been maintained in “as new” condition.  Construction is Douglas Fir plywood and epoxy.  Spars are hollow old growth Sitka Spruce.  The boat was the subject of a Reader Boat article in the May/June 2010 issue of “Small Craft Advisor”.  Copies are available on request.  The boat comes fully equipped and ready to go cruising.  Plenty of room for two air mattresses and sleeping bags.  There is a wood stove for cabin heating and a portable galley that includes a two burner propane stove and stowage space for pots,pans,dishes,etc.  All included.  There is an ice box, porta potty, electric lights, compass, GPS chart plotter, depth sounder/fish finder/speed log, solar panel, 8 HP Honda, tabernacle mast, trailer with new bearings, brakes, etc.
North sails in excellent condition, mainsail cover, roller jib, awning, anchor and more.  The boat weighs only 2,000 lbs. so is easily trailer-able.  It’s 1’ draft and leeboards make it ideal for exploring shallow creeks, etc.
For open water work it would be simple to hang a Cal 20, or similar fin keel on it.
